Our Approach
What We Prioritize
Many skills are required of highly effective school leaders. But special attention needs to be given to mastering four skills that we call “Core Competencies.” These skills can be learned. And it is mastery of these competencies that allows school leaders to do transformational work. With LIFTeducation, you’ll grow your ability to: Lead, Innovate, Facilitate, and Teach.

Lead
We lead whenever we act and speak in ways that shift the behaviors and beliefs of others.
The heart of leadership is the intersection of self-awareness, empathy, and communication.

Innovate
Innovation is a necessity.
Increasingly, the world is facing novel problems. The ability to acquire understanding of these problems and to imagine solutions collaboratively is a critical skill set for leaders.

Facilitate
We facilitate when we help people collaboratively reach their goals.
The ability to facilitate teamwork is one of the most important skills required of school leaders. While running meetings frequently comes to mind when we talk about facilitation, it also includes conflict resolution and negotation.

Teach
We teach when we support others to acquire new skills and understanding.
All school leaders must understand and earnestly attempt to model effective teaching practices. Not only are school leaders required to ensure students learn, they are also responsible for the learning of adults.

Gaps & Channels
You’re already a great communicator. But how good are you at building communication SYSTEMS? Let’s talk about finding communication gaps and building the channels needed to fill them.
Repairing Harm
Our work is complex, often unpredictable, and above all… human. Harmful incidents are bound to occur at some point in every human community. So the question is… what do effective school leaders do AFTER harm has occurred in their schools?
Deciding How to Decide
There are countless tools designed to help us approach decisions. But there are two I use often: the Facilitator’s Guide to Participatory Decision-Making and the RAPID framework.
